The Les Paul Electric Guitar

One of the most famous guitar players of all time has got to be Les Paul. But he wasn’t just a guitarist, nor was he just a jazz musician. In fact, he was a good deal more than just these two things. He was also quite influential and innovative in the design of electric guitars. One of the best collaborations that ever occurred in the history of music was when Les Paul got together with the Gibson guitar company. From that happy partnership came the Gibson Les Paul electric guitar known as the Goldtop.

The Gibson Les Paul electric guitar has remained very popular over the years since the 1950s. The Goldtop was manufactured between 1952 and 1957. It was constructed of maple and mahogany, making it one of the heavier guitars produced during that time. Collectors love this model because of its weight, and the smooth aspects of its tone.. This is a solid and a somewhat plain guitar — but the sound that it produces is nothing short of wonderful.

I realize that rock ‘n roll has not been around, historically speaking, for all that long — but in the short span of time that it has been in existence, one of the most important contributions has been the development of the Gibson Les Paul electric guitar. It has gone through many different design phases, and styles, but two important factors have remained constant: the dedication to excellence and the avid pursuit of the best sound possible.

Think of it this way; mention the early days of rock ‘n roll and try — just try — to refrain from mentioning the Les Paul. You can’t do it, can you? I did not think that you could. It is analogous to trying to talk about Michelangelo, without mentioning the Sistine Chapel or Pope Julius. Can’t be done. Oh, it’s possible that another musical genius may have come along and invented a good guitar – but it wouldn’t have been a Les Paul, and that is a fact. So come along with me, close your eyes, and imagine your favorite guitarist creating musical magic on a Gibson Les Paul.
