Psychic Readings – A Historical Account Of Psychic Phenomena

Throughout the years, people with psychic powers have been called many different things. These include augur, second sight, fortunetellers, Clairvoyance and Profits. While what people call a psychic over the years may have changed, for the most part the general idea and abilities of psychics has remained the same.

Having a psychic power simply means you can see things that are not commonly seen with the bare eye. Some psychics may also use a variety of tools to clarify and stimulate their powers, such as tarot cards. Others may believe they have the power to act as a medium, allowing those who have died to communicate with the living world.

Some people see psychics on a regular basis for psychic readings. It is through these readings that serious life problems are solved, thanks to the believed ability of the psychic to see into the deeper workings of a client’s mind.

The danger of a psychic reading is that you may find out things that you really did not want to know. This is why some people embrace these powers while others remain skeptical or scared away by the idea.

The first psychic that was recorded in history was Dr. Franz Antoine Mesmer. He was born in 1766 and passed away in 1815. During his lifetime, he claimed to be clairvoyant. He was most well known for his healing powers, although the true strength of his powers is still in question.

A trio of psychics well known in historical accounts was the “Fox Sisters.” Margaret, Kate, and Leah Fox were a big part of the well known Hydesville psychic movement that occurred in 1948 and were known for their ability to communicate with dead people. They put on shows where objects flew around the room on their own and strange noises appeared on cue.

At the time all of this was going on, most people refused to believe in this type of power. Even Houdini came out stating this type of activity was being faked. There were even many churches in on the action, holding services to ward off demons and communicating with the dead.

There have been many times throughout history that people have claimed to have gifts of prophecy and precognitive abilities. Almost everyone has precognitive abilities. A good example is when someone knows who is calling them before they look or answer the phone. Another example is when a person gets a sudden urge to call a loved one, when they sense that something is very wrong.

Many people with psychic abilities feel they are actually being steered by the universe in different directions. They usually participate in what is know as Mantic Arts. This is essentially where the person believes they can look at stones, tea leaves, and other objects and read messages or signs. For instance, some priests used to pour oil into water and attempt to see the future. The Christian church considered this dangerous and banned the practice.

The Universe guides may psychics in reading signs and symbols. These psychics believe that items such as stones, sticks, cards, dice, tealeaves, and shells and help them to predict the future. At one time priests would try to predict the future by watching the patterns that occurred when he poured oil into water. These practices are referred to as mantic arts. We find that in history many of these practices were banned and ever persecuted by Christians.

The roots of psychic readings go way back to the beginnings of time, where they were ever present in the ancient world. It was known that the King of Egypt kept psychics always on hand as a part of the royal court. They would be consulted for major decisions and of course, they could be imprisoned or killed for giving the wrong answers to the King’s problems.

Of course, no historical account of this activity can go without mentioning the Salem witch trials. Those found to have psychic powers were killed, and that included fortune tellers, by Christians who believed their powers came from the devil.

Of course, there is still a lot of doubt and skepticism surrounding this type of power. While it is no longer demonized, many people still do not believe psychic powers are real.

While the practice of psychics is accepted in today’s culture they do still face a lot of criticisms. Many people still question if psychics are really genuine.

In fact, science is now proving that every human being has some level of psychic power. These powers are of varying degree, but they can be developed if you are determined.

You could even have psychic powers of your own. Scientific research is now showing that most people have some sense of this power and if you are determined it can be developed.
