‘Jersey Shore’ will be back like a seasonal virus

‘Jersey Shore’ season two

I thought it was over. For weeks, I’d avoided the show, but something told me I had to at least take a peek at “Jersey Shore.” At first, it was just so I’d know what my friends were talking about. Of course, after a while I just felt that I’d invested so much time already, I had to see it through.

After the finale aired, I was relieved that this show, which violates the 8th amendment’s prohibition on cruel and unusual punishments, was finally over. That said, “Jersey Shore” season two is in the works, with or without Snooki and The Situation. The people (if you can call them that) from season 1 are negotiating with MTV to return, and the salary negotiations are tenser than the average tax debt settlement. Cast members are holding out for more money, MTV says it’s the final offer.

The replacements

I have read that so far today, the cast was offered $ 5,000 per episode and turned it down flat. MTV offered – way more than these chimps deserve – $ 10,000 per episode, and they still aren’t accepting it. However, it does not appear that an offer for more money will appear. Cast members that take the current offer will be signed, and the rest will be sent packing.

It’s possible, if the group decides to stick together, that the “Jersey Shore” season two cast will be entirely different. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that an MTV executive said:

“Finding obnoxious, pushy, trash-talking idiots who want to be on TV is as easy as falling off a log.”

And that executive is exactly right. In fact, when I first heard of “Jersey Shore” I assumed that it would include a different group of self-proclaimed guidos and guidettes each season, kind of like “Real World.” Honestly, they get more than they deserve anyway, and MTV should offer them half – of nothing. People will still watch, even if there’s a different set  of ridiculous nicknames and big mouths involved.
