Moving Files from Photoshop to Illustrator

by David Peters

Illustrator and Photoshop are remarkable programs individually, but when they are both used together toward a common goal the results are nothing less than amazing. Artists can utilize features from both programs to create stunning artwork for publication. There are three basic methods for moving a document between Photoshop and Illustrator.

You can “place” a Photoshop image into an Illustrator document, or place Illustrator artwork into a Photoshop file a using the File > Place command found in both programs. This is the most traditional method of moving a file from one program to the other. The only issue of concern is that the image or artwork must be in a file format readable by the other program.

While Photoshop is very versatile in its ability to read multiple file formats, Illustrator is more limited in the formats it understands. However, once a file is in a readable format such as TIFF, GIF, JPEG etc, you can use the above mentioned File > Place command and select the image. Illustrator will “place” the desired image inside of the Illustrator file, and you will have some ability to modify the file within Illustrator.

The second way to convert a Photoshop file into Illustrator (or vice versa) is the Clipboard method. Simply copy the file elements you want from one program using the Copy command, and paste it into the other program using the Paste command. The Copy-Paste method does come with certain limitations. It does not work as well for files of large size and you can easily overload the receiving program by pasting a large file into it.

The third method for converting a file from one program into the other is dragging and dropping. To perform this method, both programs must be open. Decide on the artwork you want to transfer, and simply drag it out of the Photoshop window onto the Illustrator window. To take Illustrator art into Photoshop, simply select the artwork from an open Illustrator window, drag it to an open Photoshop window and drop it into Photoshop.

One last tip is that you can place paths from Photoshop to Illustrator files by using the Path Selection tool in Photoshop. With this feature, simply pick the paths you want to move and paste them into Illustrator.

Zune Movies: Things to Consider When Downloading

by Rashel Dan

It may seem like any ordinary multimedia player. What most people don’t know is that one of the best things about the Zune player is the ability to store and play Zune movies. A typical player is about 30 gigabytes and this device can be a serious multimedia workhorse especially for movie buffs and TV show aficionados. The movies are not difficult to transfer to the device either because the software that the device is packaged with makes it straightforward.

Playing Movies – Another great thing about the Zune player is that you can sync the movies to be able to play on iTunes or on Windows Media Player which is the default setting. So what is the problem? Well, when it comes to downloading files, there may be a few things to keep in mind when doing so.

Unwanted Software

You will have to make sure of a few things if you are planning to invest a little cash and time into sites other than Zune Marketplace for your downloads. One of these things is that you must know that you risk downloading other elements other than movies when you get these files from third-party sites.

Third-Party Downloads – Downloading from third-party sites exposes your computer to all sorts of harmful software and viruses. You are also exposing your computer to adware, Trojans, and worms especially when you are downloading from free sources and sites that have little or no reputation. What these unwanted software can do is lessen the processing speeds of your computer and corrupt other data that is stored on your hard disk. Keep this in mind when you decide on downloading from third-party sites.

Speed

When it comes to downloading, speed is of the essence. This can’t be truer when dealing with Zune movies. Movie files are quite large and so you will want to get these files that are available to serve them to you at fairly large bandwidth levels.

A good internet connection just isn’t enough. The site that you are paying for content has to be able to serve fast upload speeds as well for you to be able to download fast. Free and unlimited Zune downloads are usually parked in areas of the Internet that cannot offer these speeds and this can affect the way that you want to enjoy your Zune.

Corrupted Files

Ever thought that your file finished downloading and when you tried to play it on your Zune, it just wouldn’t work? This kind of file is known as either a corrupted or incomplete file. These are the kinds of files that you might expect from content providers who offer free Zune content. This means that you re just wasting your time in downloading large files only to find out that they don’t work on your Zune at all.

The Risks – You are also again risking the fact that the files will affect your other PC files and slowing down your PC system. When it comes to movies, the chances are bigger that they are incomplete mainly because the files are much larger. The only way to make sure that Zune movies are complete and working is to download them from reputable sites.
